Biosafety Training

A training schedule for the next several months is provided on the links below for Biosafety Level 2 training and NIH Guidelines training for principal investigators who conduct recombinant experiments. Be sure to bring your UIN for the session in order to receive credit for training.

If you or members of your staff need to complete training and the regularly scheduled sessions will not meet your needs, please feel free to contact us, and we will do our best to accommodate your scheduling needs.

  • All personnel listed on a biosafety level two (BSL-2) IBC permit must complete BSL-2 training, provided by the Office of Biosafety, before being permitted to enter and work in the BSL2 lab. BSL2 training is offered weekly and upon special request.
  • Principal Investigators conducting research involving recombinant DNA molecules must complete NIH Guidelines training. This training is offered online through TrainTraq.
  • All personnel listed on a biosafety level three (BSL-3) permit must complete BSL-3 training, provided by  the Office of Biosafety, before being permitted to enter and work in the BSL-3 lab.  BSL-3 training is available upon request, as needed. Please contact the Office of Biosafety at 979.862.4549 or biosafety@tamu.edu for assistance.
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training: This training is designed to provide a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of transmission, methods of prevention, and other important information. If you have a reasonable risk of contact with human blood, tissues, body fluids, and/or other potentially infectious materials as part of your job duties, you must take this training. Annual retraining is mandatory. For more details on how to complete this training see the BOHP training page.
  • Documentation of Lab-Specific Training: The Principal Investigator is responsible for providing lab-specific training. Each employee working in BSL-2 and above laboratories must receive and document the receipt of lab-specific training. Please complete and print, document the training, and scan and upload the document into iRIS or send via email to IBC@tamu.edu. Download the document in Word.
